The load band is the one worth getting right. A rail rated under 600 lbs is a bedroom rail: shirts, dresses, a couple of jackets. Between 600 and 1,000 you are into coats, denim and wet wool without the span dipping. Over 1,000 lbs is shelving territory, and those frames are built around four posts rather than two uprights.
Width is the one people measure last and regret first. The figure on each page is the frame at its widest point, so if the rack is going into an alcove, chalk it on the floor and leave yourself an inch on each side to get it in at all.
